Kim sullivan

Kim Sullivan began her martial arts career in 2008, studying the Korean martial art, Tang Soo Do, and she currently holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt. Ms. Sullivan continues to train with her instructor, Master Jack Bennet, 8th degree black belt. Ms. Sullivan has dabbled in other martial arts such as Aikido (2 years) and Muay Thai(3years).

Ms. Sullivan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a thriving psychotherapy practice in Elk Grove, CA. There is a commonality between martial arts and psychotherapy. The development of the whole person is emphasized through building confidence, attacking shame, and cultivating self-discipline.

Ms. Sullivan takes the teaching approach that no mistake is demonized. In the western world, mistakes are demonized. Punishment and shame soon follow a mistake, which invites people to hide their mistakes or not take risks for fear of making a mistake.

Ms. Sullivan believes that growth comes from mistakes. People must be willing to make mistakes to experience this growth. Ms. Sullivan’s classes promote emotional safety, free from judgment and shame. “One of my biggest lessons I learned  from Tang Soo Do is that it’s OK to make a mistake, and it’s OK to look stupid.”
